I just returned from Nevis on Feb 8, 2004, after spending one glorious week at HCB. I have been all over the Caribbean, and can honestly say that HCB has the best combination of views, privacy and service that I have ever experienced, anywhere.

When my flight from St. Kitts to Nevis was cancelled, I was especially glad that Kathryn was one step ahead, and had already made alternative arrangements for us with a taxi waiting at the airport and a boat ready to head to Nevis, and Biddy standing by at Oualie Bay. Had we booked at any other resort or plantantion, I am not so sure we would have gotten to Nevis in such a timely fashion (as all ferries had ceased operation by the time we had landed in St. Kitts).

Our bungalow, Williwah, was everything I imagined -- but better, because photos simply do not do justice for the view. It is amazing. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances, cookware and dishes. We cooked breakfast and lunch daily in the bungalow and went out for dinner nightly. (when cooking breakfast, always make a little extra bacon for Kali and Kari! They were regular, welcome visitors during our stay) We did cook dinner one evening on the grill, using local spices and vegetables -- I urge everyone to try the local produce! The sellers in Charlestown are all very nice and will explain how to cook the vegetables. Everyone we met was so friendly and nice! Nevis definitely gets my "Miss Congeniality" award!

We were also afforded one night in Seastone; if you can round up some friends, I definitely recommend reservations for it. We walked around saying nothing but "WOW" for about half an hour. Indescribable views, privacy, peacefulness.

There is much to do, and nothing to do -- depending on your mood. I wanted to snorkel in the worst way, and could not find anyone running their snorkel tours, so Kathryn arranged a private tour for me! She seems to know everyone on the island and can usually tell you how to get what you are looking for.

We went hiking, we went exploring in our jeep, we shopped in town, we went to several beaches - must go to Pinney's beach and visit Sunshine, and must go to Lovers Beach -- you'll be all alone on the most lovely beach!

I sobbed like a baby when I had to leave. And yes, I usually cry when I must leave the ocean, this time, I cried because I was leaving such a lovely peaceful place. It is true what they say "It is difficult to get to Nevis, but it is even more difficult to leave"

I'll be back to HCB, probably next winter to escape the horrible Pittsburgh weather again. I'll bring more books, bikini's and bug spray, fewer dressy clothes and make up, and no hair dryer or curling iron this time. Nevis is a classy but casual island, that does not require much primping; just patience and smiles.

OH! And I'll bring some pig ears for Kari and Kali too!
